Environments Project #2 (Process)
Project Abstract:
Design a campus tour assuming that technology like the Hololens will be ubiquitous in 10 years.
Design Concept:
Incorporate artifacts in physical space as tools for the user to explore archival narratives.
Preliminary Sketches:
My initial sketches explored what type of experience each different locations afford. I examined how such spaces establish thresholds, directions, and functions, noting specifically how the physical space communicates information.
I then imagined how these spaces could transform if users used AR technology. As I explored these spaces, I decided that there is already so much information already physically embedded into the space (i.e. plaques, sculptures, etc…).
My goal was to propose a design solution that makes these information more accessible, informative, and easy-to-learn. I wanted to appeal to the users sense of adventure and discovery to make the tour experience more enjoyable.
Sequence:
Once I chose my location and established my concept, I thought about how mixed reality can effectively guide the user’s navigation. As I drew out the sequences of the interaction, I focused on how the user would know what to do in every sequence.
